Research Topics 2013

 Hi all,
Here are the purposed list of topics for the 2013 Poster Session. A couple of you have asked about doing ECC (early childhood caries & fluoride) Depending on the angle in which the research is taken, we can discuss this. As soon as you have selected a topic & partner, one of you needs to email me to confirm. I would suggest choosing 1-2 topics at least and place them in order in case yours has been selected. I f you have any questions on the topics or anything else, feel free to email me. mdryer@capecod.edu
Also, I believe I may owe a few of you a grade on a Tal Eval Please don't worry about pointing this out. Just let me know & I'll go in and grade. Also, your journals, those of you who got me to read them...are all accounted for and the concerns and thoughts have been passed on if I felt the need was there.
I look forward to working with you all next semester & I will keep you posted on Special Olympics as soon as I hear anything!

Joyce, Chelsea & John - Implant failure - influence of associated factors

Welcome Class of 2014 to DEN 230

Hi Class of 2014,
It is my pleasure to share with you my summer blog which contains information, pictures and videos about the Special Olympics and the Research Poster Session. This is a resource for you to access the guide for your project for DEN 230, The Poster Session, that many of you attended last fall. I encourage you to explore the blog and begin work on your project over the summer so that the load will be less on you and your partner in the fall.
By the time you start looking into this blog, your topic & partner will have been selected and you can begin searching for articles on your topic and divide responsibilities regarding project creation and you will be way ahead of the game for fall.

I have also included the 4 questions that will be linked to your attendance at the Summer Olympics as well as the rubric/criteria in which the reflection piece will be graded. The paper will be due upon returning in the fall to my class.

Please feel free to email me at any time over the summer. My email is mdryer@capecod.edu
I will happy to assist you in any way I can.

I look forward to working with all of you and congratulations for making it through first year!

Warm regards,
Mrs. Dryer

Special Olympics 2010

Hello Sophomores,

Once again, thank you for all your hard work, enthusiasm and compassion you all demonstrated at the Special Olympics. I was very proud of you and so glad CCCC made such an impressive showing.

I will be forwarding pictures and a brief narrative to the college about the event, so if any of you still have pics, please send them this week if possible.

Thanks!

I am listing the four questions I would like you to answer as part of your reflection assignment due when we meet again in the fall for DEN 230. The reflection piece should be at least 500 words and will be graded by a rubric/criteria I will attach via an email.

1. What were your expectations prior to attending the Special Olympics and how did the actual event compare to your expectations?

2. Describe a person you encountered at the event, athlete, care giver, volunteer or organizer and how they made an impact on you, good, bad or otherwise.

3. How did you feel about the actual event in reference to how the dental services were set up and carried out. Do you have any suggestions to make it better by either adding services or reaching more athletes?

4. How did the service experience itself leave you feeling about the special needs population
and how we as dental hygienists can make a difference.

Research Poster Presentations 2012

Greetings all soon to be second year students! Welcome to my research poster presentation blog for your summer entertainment and enjoyment... This site is meant solely as a means for you to access topics and web links because Moodle is not yet available. I tried to link the criteria guidelines directly here from Moodle, but as you will see on the guidelines page of the blog, there were some snags. You will be able to access it fully in September. You may post on here all you like, I will answer when able and please feel free to communicate with eachother here as well. Please read the journal article below, it gives you a simplistic look at research and how to evaluate articles. http://www.dimensionsofdentalhygiene.com/ddhright.aspx?id=7460 Below is a video of the research Poster Presentation night December 2009. You will be year 4 of this event and I know you will be OUTSTANDING!! I will continue to post here as I think of things you may be interested in so check in once in awhile if you would like! I look forward to working with you all in the fall on this project, you are a wonderful group! Mrs. D
